If you're afraid of interviews, you’re not alone. Apparently, over 92% of people in the U.S. have interview anxiety. But you don't have to let a racing heart and sweaty palms keep you from your dream job. Here are some tricks to get over your fear of interviews, once and for all.
Don't Arrive Too Early
The longer you sit and wait to be called in, the longer you'll have to sweat and stew. Definitely, plan on arriving on time, but try to arrange it so you're no more than five or ten minutes early. If you're lucky and get called in as soon as you arrive, you simply won't have time to go into panic mode.
Wear Something That Makes You Feel Safe
Your interview suit might sit in your closet until you have an appointment. But if you do that, you won’t have the chance to feel comfortable in it. Wear the interview outfit at home and practice moving in it. Choose something, like a scarf or a special piece of jewelry from a loved one that makes you feel cozy and safe, and wear the combination to your interview.
Have a Backup Lined Up
Those with everything to lose are likely to fear the interview the most. Never put yourself in the position where you have to get the job or else. Have a backup job or plan lined up so you can feel more relaxed and have a less critical mindset during the interview. With a backup plan, you can even psyche yourself out and tell yourself the interview doesn't matter.
These little tricks are sure to put you at ease during your next interview. With practice, you’ll be the most relaxed candidate in the waiting area!
